Fact of the Day:  On this day in history, the American Basketball Association (ABA) debuted with the Anaheim Amigos losing to the Oakland Oaks 134-129.  The ABA offered an alternative to the National Basketball League (NBA).  The ABA allowed a looser atmosphere for its players and allowed a shot that was illegal in the NBA…THE DUNK.  The ABA lasted only nine more seasons but merged with the NBA, creating the League that we have today.  The NBA can thank the ABA for the Slam Dunk…the shot that saved that NBA.
