Good Morning, Raiders:  On September 11, 2001, our country was attacked and unfortunately 2996 people lost their lives that day traveling across the country, going to work or rescuing people from either the World Trade Center or the Pentagon.  We should also remember the lives on board United Flight 93 as those folks took to action to thwart the attempts of evil.  Please join me in 30 seconds of silence for those who lost their lives that day and may we never forget the blessings we have in liberty and freedom.

Baseball:  Regional Game at Home Vs. Hoopeston Area.   4:15 pm start.  Good Luck Boys!

Softball:   The Lady Raiders won a tough battle with GCMS last night 6-4 to advance to Saturday’s IESA Regional Championship!  A shout to Jalisa Medina who hit a big two run homerun in the 5th inning!     Tonight:  Practice from 3:45 to 5:30 at Talbert Field!

    Cross Country: No Practice Tonight

Girls’ Basketball:   Practices will start on Monday Sept. 15.  Players must have a current physical to begin practicing.   **7th and 8th grade softball players will begin practicing after their season is complete**

Fact of the Day:   Did you know that on September 11, between 18,000 to 20,000 people successfully evacuated the World Trade Center.  Amazingly enough, there were 20 people who were rescued from within the rubble of the towers.  The evacuation of lower Manhattan saw 500,000 people leave the island in just under 3 hours so that police and fire fighters could control that disaster area.

Lunch For Today:   Chicken patty on bun, peas, peaches, jello, and milk

Fact of the Day:   It’s good to be king but did you know that many historic leaders had certain fears; Caligula, a Roman emperor, hid during thunder and lightning storms.  Napoleon was deathly afraid of cats while Genghis Khan feared dogs. Franklin Deleno Roosevelt feared the number “13,” while Ronald Reagan was afraid of flying.  But, the most paranoid world leader was Charles IV of France believed his body was made of glass.  He feared falling & shaking hands, so much, that iron rods were sewn into his clothing.  In the end, we all have fears.

Fact of the Day:   The remotest part of the ocean is called Point Nemo.  In the academic community it is called the “Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility.”  Located in the Pacific Ocean, if you sail to Point Nemo, you would be 1600 miles away from the nearest human.  In fact, at this point, you would be closer to the people in the International Space station (situated 250 miles from the surface) than to any other human.  This area is a known space graveyard, home to many crashed spacecrafts, defunct satellites, and other space junk.

Happy Birthday to Reed Goldenstein, today!!!
