On this date, in 1849, Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery. And, sadly on September 17, 1862, the United States would endure the Battle of Antietam, marking the bloodiest single day in United States History. The battle saw the clash of the Union & Confederate forces and the day marked 35,120 men either killed, wounded or missing. The battle ended in a draw and yet another miserable failure for the Army of the Potomac.

Good Morning, Raiders: On September 11, 2001, our country was attacked and unfortunately 2996 people lost their lives that day traveling across the country, going to work or rescuing people from either the World Trade Center or the Pentagon. We should also remember the lives on board United Flight 93 as those folks took to action to thwart the attempts of evil. Please join me in 30 seconds of silence for those who lost their lives that day and may we never forget the blessings we have in liberty and freedom.

Fact of the Day: It’s good to be king but did you know that many historic leaders had certain fears; Caligula, a Roman emperor, hid during thunder and lightning storms. Napoleon was deathly afraid of cats while Genghis Khan feared dogs. Franklin Deleno Roosevelt feared the number “13,” while Ronald Reagan was afraid of flying. But, the most paranoid world leader was Charles IV of France believed his body was made of glass. He feared falling & shaking hands, so much, that iron rods were sewn into his clothing. Fact of the Day: The remotest part of the ocean is called Point Nemo. In the academic community it is called the “Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility.” Located in the Pacific Ocean, if you sail to Point Nemo, you would be 1600 miles away from the nearest human. In fact, at this point, you would be closer to the people in the International Space station (situated 250 miles from the surface) than to any other human. This area is a known space graveyard, home to many crashed spacecrafts, defunct satellites, and other space junk.
Happy Birthday to Reed Goldenstein, today!!!
